Moroccan Hacker Group "Phantom Atlas" Claims Breach of Algeria’s National Bank System in Escalation of Cyberwarfare with "Jabaroot DZ"

On Monday evening, the Moroccan hacker group “Phantom Atlas” announced that it had successfully infiltrated the system of Algeria’s National Bank (BNA), marking a new episode in the escalating digital cyberwarfare between them and the Algerian group “Jabaroot DZ.”

The hackers posted on their Telegram channel screenshots of transactions and client account numbers from the National Bank of Algeria, supporting their claims of the cyberattack.

A few hours earlier, the same group had declared full access to the internal internet infrastructure map of Algeria Telecom. This operation was presented as a response to recent data leaks related to the “tawtik.ma” platform of the National Council of Notaries in Algeria.

Phantom Atlas detailed that the maps revealed network routes in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdès, and Bouira, with precise technical information about critical infrastructure connecting Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) access points to global content servers such as FNA and GGC.

The online confrontation between the two groups is intensifying, with each side regularly targeting the digital infrastructure of the neighboring country, turning cyberspace into a virtual battlefield marked by successive hacking claims and data exfiltrations.

The Moroccan hackers also claimed to have compromised databases of the Algerian Ministry of Labor, accessing internal files described as exposing “serious dysfunctions and poor administrative management.”

These actions were described as a “direct and disproportionate response” to the offensive by Jabaroot, which on April 8 had claimed via a newly created Telegram channel to have infiltrated Moroccan systems, including the Ministry of Employment and the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), resulting in the leak of data belonging to millions of employees and civil servants.

Phantom Atlas warned that “no future provocation will go unanswered, and the response will be disproportionate,” reaffirming that “the Moroccan Sahara is not up for debate and will remain under full Moroccan sovereignty. You have underestimated our capabilities. These are the consequences.”

These developments reflect the growing tensions in cyberwarfare between Morocco and Algeria, where cyberattacks have become a strategic tool and pressure mechanism in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
