Wildfires in Southern France Force Royal Air Maroc to Cancel Flight to Marseille
منذ يوم
Due to the devastating wildfires sweeping through southern France, Marseille Airport was closed on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. This situation forced several airlines to postpone their flights destined for the French city.
Royal Air Maroc announced the suspension of its flight AT732 from Casablanca to Marseille, originally scheduled for Tuesday. The national carrier stated on its official Twitter account that the airport’s runways are expected to reopen after 18:00 UTC, saying:“Due to a fire near Marseille Airport, flight AT732 Casablanca/Marseille is temporarily suspended. Runways are expected to reopen after 18:00 UTC.”
The fire, located just a few kilometers from the airport, is spreading rapidly. Despite the deployment of a large firefighting force—including more than 1,000 firefighters and water-bombing aircraft operating in shifts—the fires remain uncontrolled.
The A9 highway, a major route connecting France to Spain, was reopened on Tuesday after being closed Monday afternoon. No official damage report has been released yet, but it is estimated that thousands of hectares have been burned and several homes have been affected.
French authorities continue their intensive efforts to contain the wildfires, which pose a serious threat to residents and infrastructure in the region.
