Tanger Med Port: Moroccan Police and Customs Foil Smuggling of 971 Kilograms of Cocaine Hidden in Refrigerated Container from Brazil

TANGER MED (FesNews Media) — National Security (DGSN) and Customs officers at Tanger Med Port foiled a major international drug trafficking operation on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2026, seizing a massive shipment of 971 kilograms of cocaine.

Border inspection teams discovered the cocaine slabs carefully concealed within the structure of a refrigerated shipping container (reefer) aboard a maritime vessel sailing under the flag of a Latin American state. Preliminary investigation findings indicate that the container departed from a Brazilian port and was bound for a destination port in West Africa.

The Prefectural Judicial Police Service in Tangier has opened a comprehensive judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to trace all regional and international links of the criminal cartel. Simultaneously, the National Central Bureau (Interpol Rabat) under the DGSN has been tasked with international security coordination to identify and pursue the masterminds behind the shipment.
